Former Nairobi Governor, Mike Mbuvi Sonko, is courting trouble following a controversial social media post.
In a twitter post on Monday, August 23, the embattled former Governor, while castigating the sitting Deputy Anne Kananu, made glaring remarks over a 2012 grenade attack in Nairobi’s Eastleigh area.
The attack left several people injured including the Kamukunji Member of Parliament, Yusuf Hassan.
The Kamukunji legislator now wants the former Governor to shed more light on the attack.
Speaking after filing a report at the Pangani police station on Monday, August 23, Yusuf said that the former Nairobi Governor should to share more information after alleging that the attack was an attempt at his (MP’s) life.
“Ati wewe, Kananu, Abbas, Nixo munanichorea kumbavu nyinyi waizi was pesa ya umma. Mimi sio Yusuf yule ulijaribu kuuwa an grenade… (So you Kananu, Abbas, Nixo are conspiring against me…I am not the Yusuf that you attempted to kill using a grenade),” Sonko wrote on social media.
During the grenade explosion outside Hidaya Mosque, eight people lost their lives and left the MP nursing injuries.
“I was a victim of a very grievous attack that injured me and claimed the lives of eight people, and so when someone claimed that he knows who was behind it, I got very concerned,” Hassan told Nation.
The lawmaker claimed that the attack rendered him immobile, forcing him onto a wheelchair and crutches for four years.
Police says they have launched investigations into the remarks by the former Governor.
During the attack, three grenades were hurled to nearby shops from a moving vehicle.
