Police Launch Manhunt For Lamu Senator Loitiptip After Shooting A Woman In A Bar Brawl

Lamu Senator Anuar Loitiptip is wanted by police for questioning over the dramatic shooting of a woman in Nanyuki Town, Laikipia County.

Police said Anuar, 36, has been missing since yesterday morning after he was linked to the shooting incident at Kanu Grounds in Nanyuki Town.

Police were called to the scene following the incident in which Joy Makena, 32, was shot and wounded on her right leg, above the ankle.

Makena told police she was shot by Anuar of Jubilee party.

She said a quarrel broke out between her and the first time senator before he shot her at close range. He then fled the scene leaving behind his bodyguard and other supporters to attend to her.

They rushed her to the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital where she was admitted.

The Star could not get a comment from the senator as his mobile phone was switched off.

He also did not respond to a message left on his mobile phone.

Anuar’s handlers, however, said he was stressed and was seeking to talk to senior officers in the area to explain the incident.

He is said to have called a senior officer at about 6am asking for contacts for the Laikipia head of Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

Witnesses said the incident happened at about 2am as a group met at the open field.

Police later traced his bodyguard and disarmed him of his Ceska pistol that had 13 bullets.

Two spent cartridges were recovered from the scene and both the weapon and bullet heads have been sent for ballistic analysis.

“We are looking for him please. If you talk to him ask him to visit the station for processing,” said a senior police officer who was aware of the incident.

Police visited the woman in hospital yesterday for further statement as they investigate the incident.

The officers said they had not established the motive of the shooting and they intend to record more statements from more witnesses over the incident.

Anuar is not new to drama in his lifetime as a first time senator.

In 2019, he and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s daughter were injured following an attack by unknown people in Kasarani, Nairobi.

The incident happened as Anuar who had been with Agnes Saumu Mbuvi were attacked by unknown men while leaving the club.

The senator sustained deep cuts in the head and was taken to the Aga Khan Hospital, where he was treated and discharged.

Saumu told police she had been with the senator at the club watching the UEFA Champions League finals, and had excused herself to visit the washrooms when trouble began.

She said at the washrooms, she was confronted by a man who tore her blouse in the ensuing scuffle.

Later, the Senator’s handlers released photos of him lying in hospital before and after he was treated.

He has also been in social scenes commenting on various issues.
