Oscar Sudi Endorses BBI

The outspoken lawmaker who has on several occasions expressed his reservations about the constitutional amendment report could now be softening his heart.

Speaking on Tuesday, December 1, during the burial of Bahati MP Ngunjiri Kimani’s mother, the legislator endorsed the document saying it was not bad but warned it will be a burden to Kenyans.

“This BBI is not bad but it is a burden to Kenyans. You should be careful because for me as a member of Parliament, I will get my salary but common citizens will continue suffering,” said Sudi.

Earlier, the fiery lawmaker said he had read the entire BBI report and found it baseless and unnecessary.

Through his Facebook page, the lawmaker shredded the BBI report terming it “strange” and a burden to the common mwananchi.

“I have read the BBI report and noted something strange. The document entirely benefits politicians and does not address the issues concerning common mwananchi. The creation of unnecessary positions overburdens the common mwananchi instead of relieving them from the current burden,” he said via his Facebook page.

Ruto changes tune

Just like Sudi, Deputy President William Ruto has also changed his mind regarding the amendment report.

On Friday, November 27, the deputy president lit up the internet, leaving his allies and foes alike guessing after he singled out Article 11A which he noted was in line with his hustler narrative.

Article 11A of the BBI bill on the economy and shared prosperity recognises the need for an economic system that provides an equitable distribution of opportunities.

It also states that the State shall promote sources of livelihood including pastoralism, agriculture and blue economy as well as creating a system that will support small and macro enterprises.

“New article 11A in the BBI constitution bill introduced after Bomas will anchor the ordinary peoples’ hustler economics of wheelbarrow, boda boda, mama mboga, pastoralists/butchers and guarantee minimum returns on coffee, tea, korosho, sukari, maize,” he reacted.
