Nothing Wrong, Saudi Embassy Speaks On The Mistreatment Of Diana Chepkemoi

The Saudi Embassy in Kenya has disputed allegations that Diana Chepkemoi was mistreated while in the country, claiming that she is suffering from a normal health condition.

The Embassy, in a statement released on Twitter, says that it is fully committed to protecting the complete rights of inhabitants living on its territories of diverse nationalities, and that the rules followed in the Kingdom are rigorous against any activities that undermine human dignity, whoever they are.

“In reference to what was circulated on social media regarding allegations of a mistreatment of a Kenyan woman residing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Embassy would like to clarify that the woman suffers from is a normal health condition and was not subjected to any kind of ill-treatment. The Kenyan embassy in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is fully aware of the situation.” the statement reads.

The statement comes despite an audio recording of Chepkemoi’s employer saying she will deal with her for being disrespectful.

Chepkemoi’s boss is heard in an audio accusing her of being arrogant and a liar. She warned the 24-year-old that she would face unspecified repercussions, accusing her of inventing excuses to escape work.

“She will not go until she finishes the punishment. When I come she will see my fire because she played a dirty game,” the woman said in the audio.

Chepkemoi, from Bomet County, traveled to the Gulf state last year in quest of funding for her final year of studies at Meru University, where she was pursuing a Bachelors in Food Science Management and Technology degree.

Chepkemoi’s photos of her in a sorry situation went viral on social media this week, with Kenyans and her family pleading with the government to help since she was being held against her will.

Amb. Macharia Kamau, Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has however stated that the matter has been followed up by relevant authorities and that Chepkemoi is under good care.

“This matter was taken up by our ambassador in Saudi Arabia and the lady is now in safe hands.” PS Kamau tweeted.
