Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama was captured on camera assaulting a woman in Kaptembwa on Saturday, who is now crying for justice.
Amanda Chesiyna, a farmer in Molo, claims MP Arama attacked her when she went to claim an Ashok Leyland tipper that belonged to her late father Elisha Chebii- a former deputy commissioner of lands.
Chesiyna said Arama slapped and kicked her before she fell to the ground, after which associates of the MP descended on her in full glare of three police officers.
A video clip shows the MP warning the woman who was confronting him over ownership of the lorry.
Arama then tells the woman he will beat her up, and she dares him to do it. Arama is then seen moving towards the woman and hitting her. She falls to the ground and is heard squealing.
Chesiyna said her family was in the process of recovering properties left by her late father, who died in May this year.
“Our properties were disappearing after the death of my father, but we are seeing some of them, like the vehicles, moving from one point to the other in Nakuru town,” she said.
Chesiyna said the family moved to Milimani courts in Nairobi to seek the right of administration of their father’s property before succession is done – a prayer that was granted.
She said the tipper had been ferrying sand into town, but they had no idea who had assumed ownership of the vehicle.
“We went to Kaptembwa police station and reported that we were looking for the tipper. We presented the logbook and the grant from the court and the officers told us that we had chosen the right way to go about it,” Chesiyna said.
After locating the tipper at Baptist area in Shabab, Chesiyna said they went to Pinewood police post – which was nearest – and they were given three officers to accompany them.
“When we got there, we found mechanics working on the tipper, and they told us to wait for Arama. We did not know who Arama was, but in a short while, he arrived with a group of youths,” she said.
“We suspected he was a legislator because the people he came with kept calling him mheshimiwa.”
Chesiyna, who was in the company of her mother Christine Chesiyna and sister, Lucy Chesiyna, showed Arama the court papers and the logbook and then demanded to be given the keys to the lorry.
She said the MP kept saying the lorry belonged to one Susan and was not theirs.
“It was then that I demanded to know what his interest was in the vehicle. He then threatened to beat me. I then started to record him with my phone,” Chesiyna said.
“It was then that I was attacked. It was first a slap, then kicks and blows.”
After being assaulted, Chesiyna said they rushed to Kaptembwa police station to report the matter but found the alleged attackers already there.
“We went to Central police, but we were asked to go back to Kaptembwa. We then went to Rhonda police station, and they helped us,” she said.
The Kenya Police Medical Report at Rhonda police station to the Superintendent Nakuru Level 5 Hospital says Chesiyna was attacked on November 28 at noon.
The brief details of the alleged offence says “to have been assaulted by persons known to her and sustained injuries. Kindly, ascertain the degree of the injury”.
