KPA Finance boss Patrick Nyoike, wife Jacinta arrested over Ksh.214M fraud

Patrick Nyoike, the General Manager Finance at Kenya Ports Authority (KPA),  and his wife Jacinta Wanjiku Wambugu have been in arrested in Mombasa.

This after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission completed investigations into irregular payments amounting to Ksh.214,548, 340.80.

Isaac Obunga, a clerical officer at KPA, has also been arrested.

Investigators unearthed the multi-million scandal where Mr. Nyoike is said to have used his office to confer the funds to Nyali Capital Limited.

“Indeed, Patrick Wambugu Nyoike facilitated  Nyali Capital Limited’s micro finance business to finance the KPA suppliers, Local Purchase Order (LPOs) and Local Service Orders (LSOs) and thereafter used the KPA system to have the principal and the interest from the said suppliers remitted to Nyali Capital Limited’s account by the KPA,” the Director of Public Prosecutions said in a statement.

The directors of Nyali Capital Limited are Alfred Hinga Nyoike (brother to Patrick Nyoike) and one Peter Ndichu Kinyanjui while Jacinta Wanjiku Wambugu is the company’s General Manager.

The clerical officer is also said to have irregularly identified Nyali Capital Limited as a vendor in the KPA vendor portal.

“This clearly demonstrates a conflict of interest on the part of Patrick Wambugu Nyoike, the General Manager Finance at KPA,” the ODPP’s statement adds.

The suspects will be arraigned before the Anti- Corruption Magistrate’s Court in Mombasa on Monday.

They will be facing charges of abuse of office; conspiracy to commit an offense of corruption, failure to disclose a private interest to his principal and dealing with suspect property.
