Kesses MP Swarup Mishra Under Fire From Netizens for Launching TV Set

Kesses Member of Parliament in Uasin Gishu county, Swarup Mishra, nicknamed Arap Chelule, has sparked mixed reactions online after launching a television set in a rib cutting ceremony.

The event was conducted at Cheplaskei peace centre in his constituency under the full glare of cameras.

Photos shared by Kenyans showed the Jubilee lawmaker cutting the bluish and golden ribbons on the 70-inch TV mounted on the wall as some youth watched from a distance.

The TV set came complete with a DStv dish which provides multiple channels and services to subscribers.

The MP had reportedly promised the youth that he would donate a TV set to watch their favourite programmes during their leisure time.

Netizens ridiculed the MP for the action, and TUKO.co.ke sampled some of their comments.

Kawangwarest’s Finest sarcastically said:

“Thank you, Hon Swarup Mishra, for launching this TV set. Great progress ever experienced in Kesses Constituency. The whole constituency can now follow all President Uhuru Kenyatta’s proceedings after locked down Nairobi, Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu, and Nakuru counties.”

@_Top_intel wrote:

“Kesses MP Mishra launching a TV earlier on in the day. Independence Day.”

Patriotic African termed it a joke:

“Kesses MP Hon Swarup Mishra launches a TV set. Pure joke.”

“Kesses MP Swarup Mishra has successfully launched a TV set. “

Unfulfilled pledges

TUKO.co.ke had reported Kesses youth had accused Mishra of failing to fulfill his pre-election promises.

On Monday, June 29, 2020, the lawmaker found himself in a tight spot after youths from the Ketiplong area blocked the road and confronted him.

The irate youth who carried placards further claimed the first time legislator had failed the constituency by reneging on his promises.

One of the placards was written, “stop blackmail and intimidation you have failed us”.

They complained that a huge number of youths were at home, yet he had done nothing to provide opportunities for them.
