IEBC Staff Found Murdered

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has confirmed that one of the six persons killed on Tuesday, January 19 in Baringo South, was an employee of the agency.

In a press release Thursday, the electoral board says its constituency administrative assistant (CAA) for Tiaty Constituency, Brian Silale, was among the six smartly dressed persons, whose bodies were found dumped in Kiserian Village in Mukutani Ward in Baringo South.

It is suspected that Silale and five others were accosted and fatally shot following a bandit attack on Sunday evening. It remains unclear whether the six had any involvement in the bandit attack that resulted in the death of a local trader. It is yet to be established who killed Silale and his friends.

“The Commission has learnt of the murder of Mr. Brian Silale who, at the time of his death, was the Commission’s Constituency Administrative Assistant (CAA) for Tiaty Constituency office,” IEBC said in its press statement Thursday.

“Silale was last seen alive being picked by unknown persons, together with five other people, from Chemolingot Shopping Centre in Tiaty Sub-County on 19th January 2021 at about 3pm. He was later murdered under unclear circumstances and the remains of his body together with other bodies recovered on Wednesday, 20th January 2021 at Arabal Sub-Location, Mukutani Ward in Baringo South,” added the electoral board.

“The Commission strongly condemns the heinous murder of our staff and calls upon the relevant Government agencies to expeditiously investigate the incident with a view bringing the culprits to book.”

The slain victims, according to villagers, were smartly dressed in official attire.

The bodies were taken to the Kabarnet Town mortuary.
