Armed prison warder who had travelled from Meru to kill campus girlfriend in Thika over sh900K loan arrested

Sleuths attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Wednesday, August 25, nabbed a prison warder who disappeared from duty in Meru while armed with a G3 rifle with a mission to kill his girlfriend.

In a statement by DCI boss George Kinoti, the officer identified as Edwin Omuse, stormed out of Kangeta GK prison with a gun whose magazine was loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition.

“Earlier in the day, Omuse had been overheard saying that he would travel to Thika with a mission of eliminating his girlfriend, whom he alleged had defrauded him ksh900,000 that he had borrowed from a money lending institution,” the statement read in part.

Kinoti said that an eye-witness who last saw the suspect informed detectives that he was spotted on a very fast-moving motorbike.

This prompted sleuths attached to the Special Service Unit to swing into action and through intelligence managed to trace her house which is located in Kisii Estate within Thika town.

“The officers immediately moved her to safety and laid an ambush as they waited for Omuse. Today at around 5pm, Omose arrived and used a spare key gained entry into the house,” he said.

The officer allegedly assembled his gun and made a call to the lover who is a fourth-year student pursuing a course in environmental health at Mount Kenya University as he lured her to meet him.

The police officers immediately swung into action and without any commotion nabbed the suspect and recovered the firearm that was loaded with 20 rounds of ammunition.

The officer will be arraigned in court on Thursday, August 26.

“The DCI strongly warns and cautions the female youth particularly those in the Universities, Colleges and other tertiary institutions to be wary of predators whose bond of love is premised on monetary cords that are meant to temporarily win their affection. These cords suffer monetary volatility which lead to suicidal and animalistic psychological attacks. Take time to know him and do due diligence,” the statement read in part.
