Anxiety has hit cabinet nominees after president William Ruto warned that any cabinet secretary who steps into State House or any meeting he is chairing while drunk will be fired.
Not spared are the president’s aides and politicians who frequent State House. But said to be first on the list is Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja.
Sakaja was at one time in the news after he brushed shoulders with law enforcers during Covid-19 curfew period.
Ruto, a teetotaller, also warned that any CS he summons, whether at the dead of night, and appears while intoxicated, will suffer the same fate.
The president issued the warning days after he became the new tenant at State House where he oversaw cleansing by over 40 clergy.
In the list of Ruto cabinet nominees, those who drink alcohol include National Treasury and Planning , Njuguna Ndung’u, Public Service and Gender, Aisha Jumwa, Water, sanitation , and Irrigation, Alice Wahome, Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, Alfred Mutua, Trade, Investments, and Industry, Moses Kuria, Agriculture and Livestock, Mithika Linturi, Information, Communications and Digital Economy, Eliud Owalo, Energy and Petroleum, Davis Chirchir, Youth Affairs, Sports and Arts, Ababu Namwamba, Cooperatives and Micro and Small, and Medium Enterprise Development, Simon Chelugui. But the most hit by the directive is Kuria and Sakaja known to consume alcohol during the day.
Other sources revealed that Ruto has also demolished the bar at State House that his predecessor, Uhuru Kenyatta, had established.
The bar contained all kinds of drinks ranging from expensive wines to beers. The bar had a large stock of Uhuru’s favourite drinks. Ruto’s parting shot was “punguza pombe ama uache”
