‘Not Open To All’ Karen Country Club Clears The Air On Reports About Opening To The Public

The uber-exclusive Karen Country Club has sought to respond to recent viral reports that it has opened its doors to members of the public.

The Club, in a statement to newsrooms on Wednesday, clarified that it is and remains a “members only Club”, with admission for new membership only considered upon introduction by two members who have been active for two years.

The facility also stated that its Clubhouse is also accessible to its members and their guests only, and not to the public.

“Karen Country Club is a family-oriented members only Club. Admission to membership remains through introduction by 2 members who have been at the club for a minimum 2 years and are of good standing,” General Manager Robert Onyango said in the statement.

“The Clubhouse and facilities at the Club are open for use by members and member guests only and are not open to the public. Access to the club by member guests is governed by club by-laws.”

Mr. Onyango however further added that non-members may be allowed access to the club to play golf, but only after paying a certain fee.

He also said members of the public are allowed into the Residences, adding that events at the Club cater for both the young and the old.

“Non-members may visit the club to play golf and do so upon payment of the prescribed green fees. The Residences are the only facilities at the club that are open to the general public,” noted Mr. Onyango.

“Access to the Clubhouse from the Residences is controlled and is limited to guests who come in for breakfast. The Club continues to attract both young and old and we strive to ensure that events are structured to cater to all age groups.”

The Karen Country Club was a trending topic nationwide on Tuesday with many Kenyans on Twitter (KOT) making jokes at the idea of the management opening up the hitherto super-exclusive facility to the general public.
