Government Notes That Many Nairobians Are Holding House Parties Disregarding Coronavirus Policies

The Government has cautioned young people who are hosting house parties saying they are putting themselves at risk.

Health CAS Rashid Aman singled out four suburbs in Nairobi that he said have come to their attention.

“…the spread of the virus is concentrated in some areas. This could be attributed to information that we have received about groups of young people who are organizing house parties in Westlands, Lavington, Kileleshwa and Hurlingham,” he said.

The Government suspended all public gatherings after the first case of the COVID-19 disease was reported in Kenya in March.

Kenyans were also urged to stay home and wear masks if they need to leave the house and maintain a distance of at least 1 meter when in public places.

However, according to Dr. Aman, young people have thrown caution to the wind and are hosting parties with little regard for the social distancing measures.

“I want to remind Kenyans that avoidance of social gatherings is among the containment measures of coronavirus disease. I therefore want to appeal to our people to take individual responsibility in observing measures that have been advocated by the Ministry, failure to which the disease will be difficult to contain,” he said on Friday.

So far, Kenya has reported a total of 4,374 cases of coronavirus; 119 deaths from the disease and 1,550 recoveries.
