A petition filed by Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance Presidential Candidate Raila Odinga at the Supreme Court contains damning revelations of how the UDA party Presidential candidate William Ruto hired a team of 56 tech gurus whose job was to hack into the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) electronic systems. They compromised the actual Presidential results transmission by flooding the system with their own set of results in the just concluded general elections.
The rogue team was reportedly housed in one of Ruto’s several residential homes in Karen from where and with the help of highly advanced electronic gadgets they remotely hacked into the IEBC’s transmission systems, doctored the figures on the critical form 34As to favour William Ruto before uploading them back on the IEBC portals. Virtually all the 34As form submitted by IEBC’s returning officers from constituencies across the country was targeted. The team successfully doctored the forms and then uploaded them to the Commission’s Server with fake results.

The revelations are contained in a detailed affidavit sworn by the veteran anti-corruption crusader John Githongo quoting “a confidential whistleblower” who was one of Ruto’s hired IT hacking team. The affidavit forms part of the documents filed at the Supreme Court in the petition by Raila Odinga. Mr Githongo’s affidavit, one of the supporting documents filed at the Supreme Court to support rigging claims made by Mr Odinga’s team, documents that the rogue techies had a field day accessing the IEBC systems where they manipulated the form 34As transmitted from polling stations across the country.
The hackers accessed passwords to the IEBC systems provided to them by top IEBC operatives with the full backing from their boss, Wafula Chebukati. In his court submission, Mr Githongo details blow-by-blow his conversation with the unnamed rogue hacker turned whistle-blower who openly avers that they were hired to compromise the 2022 Presidential elections. He says that their mission was to manipulate and doctor the form 34As to ensure that William Ruto was declared President-elect based on the fake figures.
Indeed the alarm bells should have started ringing after Mr Chebukati first met Mr Odinga at the Windsor Golf and Country Club over the inclusion of the manual voter registers. Mr Chebukati had declared then that only KIEMs kits would be used in identifying voters, Ruto who had been in total agreement with Odinga about the need for a manual voter register to complement electronic devices in case they failed, made a complete U-turn. He was now against the manual registers in favour of KIEMs kits only. It is now clear that the conspiracy was mooted well before the last general elections.
