PR Overdrive: Situation In Mombasa Is Not As Posh As It Seems, Joho Is Tricking The Whole Country

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has indeed captured the imagination of Kenyans by his apparent timely and flawless response to the Covid-19 Pandemic in his county.

Mainstream media and social media is awash with colourful photos of Joho in his element, launching Isolation Centres, Disingection Booths and receiving food donations to be distributed to the needy.

Through his Hassan Joho Foundation, the governor has mobilised Kenyans to contribute food stuff to help vulnerable people in his county. But it seems the donations may not be reaching the intended recipients.

Situation seem to be different on the ground. Desperate families are still sleeping on hungry stomachs despite millions being raised to help them.

“I am a volunteer helping combat the pandemic in Likoni and i can say without fear of contradiction that there is a lot of public relations exercises but little action.” A source talking to Nairobi Exposed elaborated.

The source continued, “We know a substantial amount of food has been received for onward distribution to the most vulnerable people affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic. In collaboration with local administration and civic groups, we managed to identify the most needy to get the packages.”

“But to our surprise and disappointment, there seem to be a lot of politics and discrimination on the way the relief food is bieng dished out. For starters the poorest of the poor in Likoni and Kisauni have been completely left out of the exercise. The donations have only been taken to Kongowea in Nyali and Mvita where Joho relatives are. Not a single person from Likoni or Kisauni has recieved the packages yet they are the most needy.” The source said.

Watu wa bara’ outsiders have deliberately been sidelined in the distribution, they’re only voting machines, often forgotten and only remembered during elections.

Joho has also perfected the art of taking credits donations from individuals, if you remember, there are ventilators he launched, they were gifts from a Dubai Sheikh. Luckily, he has a wide network of philanthropists.

The automatic sanitizing booths was a brainchild of billionaire Suleiman Shahbal, he collaborated with Joho and other humanitarian organizations. During the launch, the billboard read both their names.

This project would then be extended to other populated areas in Mombasa but this time, Shahbal’s name was conveniently excluded. Unknown to many, it was infact Shahbal’s engineers who developed the whole project but again it was Joho who took all the credits, thanks to his superb PR team.

While Joho paints a picture of a coronavirus god and the only working leader in the country, behind the scenes and greatly dine photos is a heap of mess.

Of the most ignored yet crucial component aspect of the healthcare system is the HWCs. What the Governor wouldn’t want the world to know is that healthcare workers have been late for their salaries.

Forget about the pomp photos, can the Governor honestly say that the safety of the healthcare workers are taken care of? Do they have enough PPEs? A number of facilities we’ve contacted report lack of crucial protective gears so how are they supposed to be effective in combating the virus?

Joho must be doing good in the faces of many Kenyans who don’t look beyond their noses. If the welfare of health workers can’t be secured then it’s as good as dead.

A ground check on the highly publicized spray booths shows that most have stopped working.

If you asked any common coasterian on the exact situation in Mombasa and what’s being painted in the media, you’d be ashamed for clapping to the devil.

Joho should climb down the Ivory tower and work for the needy in his county and stop seeking publicity and stardom in the media
