There have been a widespread public outcry following the inhumane eviction of the Kariobangi residents. The residents were bulldozed out of their homes in a government effort to repossess the land. According to the residents, they have been living there since 1996 and they were even issued with title deeds by the government. This matter has brought about a lot of heat on president Uhuru Kenyatta with national assembly minority whip Junet Mohamed calling upon president Uhuru Kenyatta and his government to resign.
Gatundu South member of parliament Moses Kuria has come out to reveal the reason why president Uhuru and his government are evicting Kariobangi residents. According to Moses Kuria, the evictions are being made to clear the land so as to set up a mega sewerage disposal. This is in preparation for a forthcoming ultra-modern city project. Sources have indicated that the Kenyatta family is set to splash a whopping 500 billion Kenya shillings into this historical city project.
According to a report by the Business Daily in 2016 when the Ksh500 billion Northlands City project was conceived, the Kenyatta family set out to build the mixed-use development on an 11,000-acre farm currently housing its giant dairy processor Brookside. It showed that a total of 3,570 acres were set aside for residential housing, including low-density residentials (3,134 acres), high-density residentials (306 acres), and medium density residentials (130 acres).
“I understand that the Kariobangi Sewage evictions are meant to clear the land to set up sewage disposal for an ambitious forthcoming Ultra-Modern City project. But for crying out loud it’s not that the Ultra-Modern City project is being built tomorrow. How does one reconcile their conscience to see women and children evicted when they are suffering from lack of money, acute food shortage, unforgiving rains and battling with Corona Virus? How does it benefit you to own the whole world and lose your soul? You will burn in hell,” shared Moses Kuria on Facebook.
Moses Kuria has organized with other members of parliament and members of Nairobi county assembly to visit the evictees and donate food to them.
“I will be leading other MPs and MCAs to distribute food to the Kariobangi eviction victims at 10am,” added Moses Kuria on Facebook.
The Kariobangi evictions has angered many parliamentarians who took to parliament to express their disappointments with president Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration. In the senate, senate minority James Orengo called upon the government to wake up and stop mistreating Kenyans. John Mbadi and Junet Mohamed in the national assembly took on president Uhuru’s government asking him to resign since they have failed in their mandate.
