Transport cabinet secretary James Macharia and his National Treasury counterpart Ukur Yatani are among four of the so-called dollar millionaires in Uhuru Kenyatta era cabinet who are now the talk in president William Ruto’s new administration.
But it is Macharia who is said to have made billions after Uhuru and members of the Kenyatta family chucked him from the banking industry to be in charge of lucrative ministries with multibillions budget. Macharia had on his side two slay queens that had influence on him and part of making millions.
Talk at the Transport ministry is that the CS turned it into corruption and sex den. One of Macharia’s confidants is new Nakuru’s Bahati MP Irene Njoki of Jubilee.
As the CS’s personal assistant, she was known to flew in the first class with the CS whenever on foreign trips.
Macharia is married to a Zambian lady and due to stories emerging from ministries he was in charge, all is said not to be well with the marriage.
Whenever abroad with Njoki even during trips with then president Uhuru Kenyatta, the CS and Njoki were always booked in the same hotel.
Even locally when on ministry engagements it was the norm. Another confidant of Macharia at Transport was Halima Gitonga.
She is a Kalenjin but married in Meru. Just like Njoki, the CS wanted her to be in parliament but she did not make it.
She lost in Eldama Ravine parliamentary race on Jubilee ticket. She initially eyed UDA ticket but lost during primaries.
Briefs we have it that Gitonga’s marriage is shaky over what is termed big money windfall her suspicious association with Macharia being the likely the cause.
It is on the said grounds she wanted to be MP in Baringo not Meru. The trio operated dollar accounts at NCBA.
Apart from making a kill from lucrative multibillion road projects, Macharia and his slay queens raked in millions of shillings by brokering work permits for Chinese settling in Kenya.
They would pretend the ministry was clearing the Chinese to work on road projects but ended up in other sectors.
Njoki and Macharia’s relationship is traced back when they were working at a local bank owned by the Kenyattas.
A powerful face in the new Ruto administration has documents revealing how Macharia and Yattani paid Chinese firms in roads projects billions of shillings during the last days of Uhuru in power. The duo is said to have benefited from the deal.
