Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has vowed to sue the Environment CS Keriako Tobiko for slander.
Kimani said he was not involved in the murder of environmentalist Joannah Stuchbury, adding that it was wrong for the CS to mention him as a person of interest in the case.
The MP wondered why Tobiko singled him out among the many people and companies which own land in the controversial area around Kiambu forest.
“I have never plotted to harm anyone leave alone kill, it was not fair for Tobiko to list me among the suspected killers without concrete evidence simply because we disagree politically,” he said.
Speaking at his home in Maili Kumi where he had hosted youths from different parts of the constituency, the MP said he had instructed his lawyers to file a defamation case against Tobiko.
Stuchbury, a vocal environment activist who has protested against the construction in Kiambu forest was killed on July 15 at around as she drove into her home on the outskirts of Nairobi.
She was shot several times by an assassin who left her body in the vehicle with the engine still running and everything intact.
During the Sunday meeting, Kimani said he was outside the country in the US when the murder was committed.
“How was I involved in a murder while I was so many miles away, how could I have planned it without leaving a trail of evidence,” he posed.
On October 26, Tobiko told the Senate Security Committee that Stuchbury was murdered due to her environmental conservation efforts, specifically stopping the rehabilitation of a road in Kiambu Forest.
Tobiko said Kimani wanted to rehabilitate a road through the natural resource to his private land but Stuchbury successfully blocked him
In his submission, the CS referred to a case before the Kiambu court that linked a company in which Kimani is the director.
However, Kimani said Tobiko was targeting him because the CS believed that he helped Kajiado East MP Peris Pesi Tobiko, who is the sister to the CS to join Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA party.
He urged the youth to shun divisive politics and rally behind leaders who mean good for the country.
Kimani also denied claims that he was vying for either Nakuru’s governorship or senatorial seat, saying he was working towards recapturing his seat.
