Fanaka Limited Owned By Moses Kuria Disappears With Sh480 Musicians Money

MOSES KURIA’S media firm extorts musicians over Ksh 480 million in royalties from Safaricom.

A firm owned by the outspoken Gatundu South legislator Moses Kuria is on the spot after it failed to remit close to half a billion shillings owed to musicians across the country from Skiza Tune Codes’ royalties.

According to Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa, Fanaka Mobile Limited, a Premium Rates Service Provider (PRSP) licensed to sell Skiza Codes to content creators, has received Ksh 480 million for onward remittance to it’s clients, mostly musicians.

The firm which was registered a couple of years ago became popular as Kuria used his political influence to lobby musicians across the country to register their trade with his company.

According to an agreement seen by Citizen Weekly, Fanaka Mobile Limited, which has since closed it’s offices in Nairobi, was obliged to remit royalties to musicians on a monthly basis but has declined to honour despite receiving millions from Safaricom.

Fanaka Mobile Ltd is a subsidiary of Fanaka TV launched by Kuria in April 2017 as an entertainment station to provide jobs and other opportunities for young people mainly from his constituency.

However, it failed to pick as an entertainment station prompting Kuria to hire former Citizen TV presenter Terryanne Chebet as CEO, who has since steered it to be a business channel.

Kuria acquired Fanaka TV from the founding CEO Ms Charity Mwangi, a former beauty queen and Miss Kenya 2015. She is also a resident of Gatundu South.
