EACC To Arrest Turkana Governor Jeremiah Lomorukai Over ‘Fake’ Degree

Turkana Governor Jeremiah Ekamais Lomorukai is a wanted man.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) says the Governor is facing imminent arrest over forgery of his academic papers that he used to seek clearance to successfully contest the gubernatorial seat.

According to the anti-graft agency that carried out investigations, it was established that both the Governor’s degree and diploma certificates were fake, thus rendering him liable to criminal prosecution.

EACC says the Governor forged a degree and diploma certificates purported to have been issued by the Kenya Methodist University.

The Twalib Mbarak-led agency is now protesting that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) turned a blind eye to their recommendation before the clearance.

EACC says the IEBC gave Lomorukai the green light to vie for the position of Turkana Governor despite the commission bringing the matter to the attention of electoral body.

The file was submitted to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) who okayed that the Governor be arrested and charged.

The Governor, elected on an ODM party ticket, will now face forgery charges contrary to Section 345 as read with 349 of the Penal Code.

He will also be charged with giving false information to EACC and uttering false documents contrary to section 353 of the Penal Code.

The Governor was among the 241 candidates flagged by the EACC as having outstanding integrity issues prior to the August 9, 2022 elections and their names submitted to the IEBC.
