CMA cautions Kenyans against cryptocurrency trading platform Fxbitinvest

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA)  has warned Kenyan investors against a cryptocurrency trading platform Fxbitinvest.

“It has come to the Authority’s attention that the company has been luring the public in Kenya to invest their funds in it products while promising a return of 400% within 6 hours. We caution the public not to investment with the company or its directors and not to deposit funds into the Mpesa Paybill Numbers or Bank Account,” CMA statement said in part.

Fxbitinvest which prides itself as the number 1 bitcoin-based platform for active traders is located at St. Vincent and Grenadines & Seychelles.

CMA says they know the people behind the crypto trading platform which it adds ‘is collecting funds from unsuspecting investors through the following M-Pesa Paybill Numbers: 2) 5578405 (Mpesa Paybill Name: CYPTO FX INVESTMENT) 2) 7546659 (Mpesa Paybill Name: FXBITINVEST)’.

“The Authority has identified persons associated with the company either in the capacity of employees or owners. They are: 3.) Hassan Juma (Instagram username: Hassan_hfx). 2) Geoffrey Koome (Facebook username: Geoffrey Koome Bitcoin, Instagram account username: Riungu Geoffrey). 3) An anonymous director (domiciled in North America)”, CMA wrote.

It continued, “A bank account at Prime Bank under the number 3000068834 may be associated with the company”.

“We caution the public not to investment with the company or its directors and not to deposit funds into the Mpesa Paybill Numbers or Bank Account highlighted above. Any investor who has been defrauded because of investing with the company is encouraged to report to the nearest Police Station with a national identity card, bank deposit slip or Mpesa statement, any contract that was entered into and other documents to support the claim. Alternatively, such investors can lodge a complaint directly on the Complaints Portal within the CMA website or visit the Capital Markets Fraud Investigation Unit on 3rd Floor, Embankment Plaza, Longonot Road – Upperhill”, the statement concluded.
