Alarm Over Infiltration Of JKIA’s VIP Lounges By Unauthorized Persons

Officials are investigating claims unauthorized persons have been using the VIP lounges at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

The investigation commenced following claims some unauthorized people have been using the VIP rooms at the airport to avoid strict immigrations procedures that anyone coming into the country is supposed to go through.

Police are investigating claims some foreigners have been given unrestricted access to the lounges without following proper clearance channels, and not falling in the category allowed to use them.

One such incident that is being investigated is how a South Sudanese national James Kuongh Ninrew who officials claim has been accessing the lounges.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has asked the director of immigration to furnish them with all the travel history of the foreigner after gaps emerged in his travel documents.

The police also plan to check his call records, which they say will enable track his movements in and out of the country.

“This office is conducting an inquiry of an alleged offence of being unlawfully in Kenya.. kindly provide use with the travel history of the holder, the purpose of entry (status), personal particular of the holder and any other information that may assist us in our investigation,” read part of a letter by Mike Muia of economic and commercial crime unit at DCI dated February 28.

In another incident it is alleged that a Nigerian national who had been deported from the country, identified as Musa Donija had used a forged passport and was allowed back into the country by using the VIP lounge.

He was later arrested in Kilimani area in the city by detectives who are currently investigating how the fugitive hoodwinked authorities with the fake passports to pass through the sensitive areas.

Some officials at the airport authority have recorded statements with the police in the probe.

The staff at the airport have been told to report any politician who harasses them while demanding to use the lounges.

Some parking yards there have since been sealed off to avoid misuse.
