Controversial American rapper Ye popularly known as Kanye West has been removed from the lineup of artists performing at this year’s Grammy Awards.
Ye was meant to headline the 64th annual Grammys Award Show, slated for April 3 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas., alongside international acts Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, Brandi Carlie, Brothers Osborne, BTS, Olivia Rodrigo Jack Harlow
Reports say that the “Heartless” hitmaker was given marching orders owing in part to his recent activity on Instagram which saw him hurl racial slurs at Daily Show host Trevor Noah, who will be hosting the awards show next month for the second time in as many years.
This is despite the fact that Ye has been nominated for several awards during this year’s award show. His album Donda has been nominated for Best Rap Album and Album of the year while his song “Jail” and “Hurricane” have been nominated under the best rap song and best melodic rap performance categories respectively.
Ye’s rift with Noah began after the Daily Show host chimed in on his ongoing spat with estranged wife Kim Kardashian and her new fling Pete Davidson on a 10-minute segment on the popular show. Kim filed for divorce in February 2021 after nearly seven years of marriage.
“It touches on something that is more sensitive and more serious than people would like to admit. I know everyone thinks it’s a big marketing stunt,” Noah said then.
“Two things can be true: Kim likes publicity. Kim is also being harassed. Those things can be happening at the same time. I’ll be honest with you, what I see from this situation is a woman who wants to live her life without being harassed by an ex-boyfriend or an ex-husband or an ex-anything.”
Prior to the incident, Ye slammed Kim for allegedly barring him from seeing his children and for allowing them to join social media platforms TikTok. He likewise fired shots at Davidson citing that he will never allow him to meet his children going as far as killing a dummy of Davidson, which he featured in his new music video “Easy”.
In typical fashion, Ye responded to Noah’s segment posting an image on Instagram with a number of racial slurs in the caption. This saw him banned from Instagram for 24 hours.
