Citizen TV anchor and media personality Jeff Koinange on Saturday August 28 stunned Kenyans after sharing images of one of his most dangerous assignments.
Koinange shared photos from New Orleans, a city-parish located along the Mississippi River in the southeastern region of the U.S, where he was ‘deployed’ to cover the effects of Hurricane Katrina.null
According to Jeff, in 2005, the levees that protected the city broke, which led to the flooding of the city from the effects of Hurricane Katrina.
His media house deployed him and his cameraman in the city where they camped for three weeks to cover everything as it unfolded.
He further revealed that he was later rewarded for the coverage.
“August 29, 2005, we were informed that the Levees had broken in New Orleans and the City was flooding from the effects of Hurricane Katrina. We immediately ‘deployed’ and stayed on the story for three weeks. Months later we were awarded the Peabody Awards for Best News Coverage,” Koinange tweeted.

His act of bravery did not go unnoticed, with fellow journalists and Kenyans trooping to his comments to laud him for his efforts.

Peabody Awards
The George Foster Peabody Awards (or simply Peabody Awards or the Peabodys) program, named for the American businessman and philanthropist George Peabody, honor the most powerful, enlightening, and invigorating stories in television, radio, and online media.

Koinange was the recipient of the Peabody Awards in 2005.
In the same year, Koinange was also a recipient of the Emmy Awards for news and documentaries.
His awards were earned through his coverage of the war in Baghdad, Iraq and also covering Hurricane Katrina in Louisiana, US.
