Immigration officials at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport stopped a man named Nazir Bhaduralli Nurmohammad Jinnah from leaving the country on Friday, July 4. He was about to board an Emirates flight to London when officers informed him that he had an active arrest order issued by the Nairobi Area Directorate of Criminal Investigations.
This order was connected to ongoing investigations into forgery. Jinnah, who holds a British passport, has been in trouble with the law several times before. He had already been convicted for pretending to be a lawyer, claiming to be an advocate of the High Court of Kenya.
The stop order used to detain him at the airport was issued on June 25. Jinnah has a long history of dishonest actions. He once claimed to be the legal affairs director at English Point Marina, a title he was never officially given.
He even wrote public letters accusing KCB Bank of being involved in financial crimes and tax evasion. However, it later became clear that Jinnah himself was not who he claimed to be. He had been pretending to be a lawyer for years, creating a fake background that included imaginary work at top law firms in Kenya and in other countries.
His lies started to fall apart during a legal case involving English Point Marina in 2022.
It was during this time that the truth came out he had never been a qualified lawyer. He had also tricked several people by pretending to work with Khaminwa and Khaminwa Advocates, a well-known law firm in Kenya.
The courts found him guilty of faking legal documents and pretending to be a lawyer. He was sentenced to 18 months in jail but was later allowed to pay a fine instead of serving the prison time.
The Law Society of Kenya also confirmed that he was never registered as a lawyer in their records.
His troubles have continued. He is now being taken to court by Conrad Law Advocates LLP, a law firm that claims he stole Ksh113 million from them. According to court documents, he used the stolen money to buy expensive cars and property in Kiambu.
This latest incident at the airport shows that authorities are not done with him yet. The investigations into his activities are ongoing, and his attempt to leave the country may have made his legal problems even worse.
