Rogue Lawyer Thomas Maosa Nyakambi Exposed

Police have put lawyer Thomas Maosa Nyakambi on the radar after he was sued for defrauding international journalist Sh62 million he was paid through his Sidian Bank account on Kenyatta Avenue to forward to his client.

The Law Society of Kenya while responding to an enquiry from veteran journalist Simpson Senda wa Kwayera, has strongly come out to affirm that lawyer Maosa has several disciplinary cases of professional misconduct, and even in the year 2016/1027, he was suspended by the premier body for conning clients.

Maosa was, however, later to be reinstated to the Bar after he paid the client.

In a suit filed at Milimani Law Courts three weeks ago by the journalist, Kwayera was paid by the Government of Kenya Sh85.7 million for services rendered through the marketing of Kenya’s investment and tourism attractions plus interest.

To date, the journalist is demanding Sh62 million plus interest of 26 per cent until full payment and other costs the court may grant.

Lawyer Maosa has not fulfilled his legal duty of forwarding the client’s money to his company, Telenews Africa and Atlantic Region.

Lawyer Maosa has, however, consistently told Kwayera that he was waiting for the ministry of Tourism to remit the funds to his account held at Sidian Bank Account, Kenyatta Avenue, yet he had already received the money and diverted it to his private joint account with his second wife, Jane Betty Mwaisaje, a Tanzanian national and a non-lawyer, also curiously with a Kenyan national identity card.

The women is said to have a Tanzanian passport with a different name to her Kenyan identity card in what is believed to be an effort to conceal her identity due to her criminal; record in the Tanzanian passport she goes by the Jane Betty Mwaisaje whereas in the Kenyan ID, she has a name known as Mary Jane Kemunto allegedly born in Nyamira.
Maosa and his wife are said to have a series of other serious both civil and criminal in different courts throughout Kenya, mostly of deceit, obtaining money by false pretense and fraud.

The journalist is represented by four top Nairobi lawyers led by Edgar Busiega Mwanga of Busiega Mwanga company Advocates.

In its response to Kwayera’s lawyers, LSK has tabulated twelve cases of disciplinary cases against lawyer Maosa in recent times concerning client’s money.

Ahead of the recent Easter Holidays, lawyer Maosa arrested by DCI detectives and held at Industrial Area Police Station over the same issue of his appetite for client’s money when the funds land in his bank account. One would wonder why he has not been struck off the roll of Advocates for openly and defiantly being a crook.

Further, the LSK says it is ready, and willing to come to court and give more information and clarification on Maosa’s legal record once summoned by the honourable court.

Lawyer Maosa is the proprietor of Maosa and company Advocates. He is the founding Dean of Kisii University School of Law and a senior lecturer. He among other corporate clients, represents Kenindia Assurance Company Limited, Occidental Assurance, Roysambu Housing Cooperative Society, Kenya Commercial Bank, and Nairobi County Government and has also previously been engaged by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to appraise national elections in Tanzania.

The question is, are all these clients aware of his dubious ways? Are they the next in target of Maosa’s cruel and lethal ways?
