Businessman Charged For Defrauding Woman Sh14M

City businessman Peter Brian Okwiri was Thursday arraigned at a Kibera court where he was charged with the offence of defrauding a woman of a sum of Sh14 million contrary to the law.

The charge sheet read in court says that the accused person defrauded Catherine Nassanga Namirembe Sozi of the said amount on April 11 at a restaurant in the Westlands area within Nairobi County.

He was charged alongside Brilliance Autocare Limited.

The accused person had earlier told the court to release the motor vehicle at the centre of the alleged fraud but his application was denied by both the detectives and the prosecutions.

The investigating officers in the case Denis Were and  Cyrus Wambua told the told court that the money alleged to have been defrauded is suspected to have been used in purchasing the said car.

The accused person however denied the charges before Kibera senior principal magistrate Phillip Mutua of Kibera law courts.

He was released on a personal bond of Sh1 million with the surety of the same amount.

The magistrate also directed that the accused person be supplied with witness statements and documentary evidence that the prosecution will rely on during the entire case.

The case will proceed next month.
