Alai Loses To Ringtone In First Round

Controversial blogger Robert Alai Onyango has been charged at Kibera Law courts with causing grievous injury to Gospel Mus Alex Apoko aka Ringtone.

He appeared before Kibera Senior Principal Magistrate Philip Mutua and denied two counts of causing grievous harm and malicious damage to property.

The blogger was charged that on July 23, 2021 along Cotton road in Kilimani Sub-County, unlawfully did grievous harm to Alex Nyanchoga Apoko.

In the Second count, the controversial blogger was accused that on July 23, 2021 along Cotton road in Kilimani Sub-County, willfully damaged driver’s window and a side step of a motor vehicle registration number KBH 121M Range all valued at Sh 416,524,680 of Alex Apoko.

Alai denied causing grievous injuries to Apoko.

He has been released on a cash bail of Sh300, 000 and an alternative bond of Sh1 million with a surety of a similar amount.

Alai has also been warned against commenting on the case on social media either directly or through proxies.

Apokoko’s lawyer Evans Ondieki had raised complaints at the court that lawyer Abraham Mutai had commented on the case this morning.

Alai shall return to the court on August 23 for pretrial.

Alai had sought for release of his motor vehicle, a Subaru Outback but Ondieki opposed the same. Alai had argued through a lawyer that the vehicle is not an exhibit in the case but Ondieki said the same will be known after the victim testifies because his car – Range Rover is also detained at the same station, Kilimani police station.

Mutua said the nitty gritties of the cars involved is better known to the police officer investigating the case and told Alai to make his formal application to the trial court.

On July 29, 2021, Apoko arrived at the Kibera Law courts in an ambulance while seemingly in pain.

He wanted to attend the plea taking event of Alai but DPP had recalled the file.

He was dressed in what appears to be a hospital gown, with parts of his body including his face and hands heavily bandaged.

I am still in pain,” he told Nairobi News.

“I have been experiencing severe headaches, my jaw hurts, my arms hurt, and I’m constantly dizzy.”

Since that incident which was captured on video, Ringtone has released several videos on social media in which he repeatedly says he is hurting and in need of treatment, while vowing that Alai will pay for his actions.

Currently he is receiving treatment in South Africa.

The court will sermon police to explain the annexes between the cars and the case.
