Wars at Kenya Railways get dirty

The underworld operations of Kenya Railways Corporation general manager in charge of legal services David Njogu are running out and likely to cause a serious management crisis at the parastatal. Recently, Njogu was forced to flee from a Nairobi blogger who was bitter for having been used to post on his site confidential leaked documents from KRC but was not paid. Of late, confidential documents with KRC letterheads are flying left, right and centre with some even ending at Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

According to the blogger, Njogu is eyeing the position of KRC director general in his underworld schemes. It is emerging, Njogu has a cartel at KRC and he has promised the ones who give him the said documents promotion. The plan is to create a management crisis, force the parent ministry of Transport and Infrastructure to act and have him appointed acting DG. In his plans are politicians who are to raise issues in parliament and senate revolving around KRC operations. Njogu was also planning to release a dossier on the suspicious allowances the KRC board enjoys to the blogger but differed after he failed to settle the previous payment. KRC board chairman is Omudho Awitta.

Omudho AwittaLast year, the board embarked on a restructuring process that saw almost all its senior managers demoted or reassigned.
The move came after former MD Atanas Maina was forced to step aside following corruption allegations. Under the new changes, Njogu was named the general manager for legal services with Edwin Njeru the GM for internal audit and research with Jessica Indangasi is general manager for ICT. Peter Kamakia took accounts manager office, John Maina as general manager for planning, design and environment, while Francis Wanjohi was named real estate valuation and agency manager.

The changes saw Job Otiwa named to head of strategy and economic planning while Mark Murkomen landed the slot of security services manager. Train services was put under Erick Kamwenwa, while Rebecca Owour was appointed ICT manager. Everlyne Ngari was named administration manager. In secret, Njogu boasts to being a seasoned manager at KRC for years and the current MD Philip Maingi regularly consults him on daily operations. He claims to be the de facto KRC MD as he was shortchanged after Maina exist. Njogu lobbied day and night to land the MD slot but when he failed, he got sick and took a sick off.
