Wangamati’s Impeachment Petitioners Allegedly Bribed To Present Weak Case

Bungoma county assembly public administration and ICT committee members now claim that petitioners in the impeachment petition to kick area Governor Wycliffe Wangamati out of office are just doing business.

Committee chairman Okumu Majimbo and the assembly majority leader Joseph Nyongesa said that they threw out the petition because it lacked merit to form a motion. However, another version is that they were compromised with millions to write a report in favour of the governor. Speaking in Bungoma town, Majimbo claimed that the petitioners Nyukuri Barasa of Torch Africa and Moses Lukoye did not present sufficient evidence that could meet the threshold to force them to table it as a motion of impeachment.

The Khalaba ward MCA observed that the weak evidence presented was just a waste of time for assembly committee members and they made a decision to throw it away. Nyongesa of Tuuti/Marakaru ward said the petitioners lacked evidence in their petition. His Musikoma ward counterpart, George Makari said: “The petitioners were compromised and, therefore, they didn’t present good evidence. They could be serious if they provided watertight evidence but they used it as an avenue to make money”.

The report committee was presented to the floor of the assembly by nominated MCA Luke Opwora on September 2 after they had retreated to write it. The report stated that the evidence was pedestrian and was full of hearsay hence it was not watertight to warrant in prosecuting the governor. The petition was, therefore, taken back to the petitioners for them to take another step if possible
