Two weeks after we reported that things were not well at Ardhi House, the headquarters of Lands ministry, officials from the Public Service Commission visited the offices of the director human resource management and development Anne Kariithi aka AK-47 to investigate her over allegations of highhandedness towards some staffs. Already a civil rights activist has filed a petition at the High Court in Nakuru to compel Kariithi to allow the chief land registrar Sarah Mwendwa to continue working from her office at Ardhi House. The officers from PSC stormed Kariithi’s office on the 11th floor and held a lengthy discussion with her where she is reported to have dismissed them claiming that they were too junior to investigate her and that they did not have enough expertise to question her competence in human resource management. “She told them to go to hell and said nothing can be done to her because she is well-connected in the corridors of power.
Remember one of her cronies is Patrick Osero, a close ally of William Ruto and whom Kariithi has been heard boasting that if Ruto ascends to power, she equally will be rewarded with a big post,” our source added.
Our source disclosed that Kariithi was questioned why she had employed and promoted people from her community on which she said that all people employed from her community and have been promoted were qualified and competent adding that she is not sorry for that. Meanwhile, Mwendwa who is said to have been locked out of her office for the last three years is readying to get to the office after a High Court in Nakuru allowed her to temporarily operate from the office. The ministry has been operating without a chief land registrar and it is said that principal lands registrar David Nyandoro has been placed by Kariithi to work in Mwendwa’s office. A civil rights activist Aggrey Wafula had filed a case at the Employment and Labour Relations Court in Nakuru on September 15 2021 in the matter of the Leadership and Integrity Act Chapter 182 of the laws of Kenya, which stipulates land registration act and protection of rights and fundamental freedom.
The petitioner, in his application, listed PSC, principal secretary ministry of Lands and physical planning, cabinet secretary in the ministry, director human resource management and development at the Lands ministry Anne Kariithi, principal lands registrar David Nyandoro and ministry of Lands and Physical Planning as first to sixth respondents respectively. An order was issued when the matter came up for inter-parties hearing under certificate of urgency and motion dated September 6 2021, September 23 2021 before judge Hellen Wasilwa of the Employment and Labour Relations Court in presence of both counsels of the petitioner and respondents where Mwendwa was allowed to continue doing her duties without interference from the six respondents, their agents or servants pending the hearing of the application filed. The mention of the case was scheduled for Thursday last week. The ministry of Lands has been hitting headlines for wrong reasons in the recent past as it is characterised by rampant corruption in the acquisition of land title deeds due to cartels that hove around the building.
