The powerful Kenya National Chamber of Commerce President, Mr Richard Ngatia is a man facing a storm after an explosive investigative expose by NTV dubbed the #Covid19Millionaires.
The investigative piece was done by NTV’s investigative journalist Dennis Okari and has raised emotions with its revelations of how powerful and well connected individuals within the country’s power circles jumped into the pandemic to make millions at the expense of the country’s poor millions who are the most affected by the pandemic.
The expose, detailed how a well-crafted heist plan was executed right from the clearing and distribution of Jack Ma’s donated face masks to the point where they were sold off in Tanzania and some rebranded and sold to local companies who re-supplied them to KEMSA under shadowy direct tenders.
From the interviews in the expose, the country cannot account for at least Ksh 43 billion shillings with regard to the Coronavirus fight.
In the midst of all this heartless looting of funds meant to fight the pandemic and cushion the poor, where does the powerful Mr Richard Ngatia come in? Here is how.
Megascope Healthcare Limited, that is registered as a medical equipment and PPE’s supplier in Kenya, finds itself right at the centre of the trail that was referred to as the Jack Ma Heist.
What began as a whisper is now a confirmed fact that the donations by Jack Ma that were meant to cushion the country’s fight against the pandemic were stolen and sold off under the watch of inluential people who have now been confirmed to be the owners of Megascope Healthcare.
Transport CS James Macharia is also mentioned as a minor partner in Ngatia’s Megascope Healthcarea and what remains unconfirmed is their personal involvement in this heist.
More revelations
Did Mr Ngatia use his connections to high offices to cover the trail od donations that disappeared, and confirmed by NTV that were sold in Tanzania, once they were received by Megascope Healthcare?
Did Transport CS James Macharia use his influence to have Megascope cleared by KEMSA and JKIA to oversee the handling of the medical equipment that disappeared into the thin air?
Will Mr Ngatia and Mr Macharia clear the air on their involvement in the stealing of the donated equipment?
