PS Korir In Trouble Over Sh1.2B Relief Food Funds

Devolution PS Julius Korir was on Monday questioned over the use of Sh1.2 billion that was used in purchase of relief food.

He arrived at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations shortly before 7 am.

Detectives handling the issue said they had established there was misappropriation of the funds.

Korir was to arrive at the DCI on November 8 but he asked for more time since he was away attending a UN meeting in Scotland.

The officers said they were investigating claims of misappropriation of the funds at the ministry. He took over at the ministry early in 2021.

Police said they will also talk to other persons at the department as part of the probe before sending the file with recommendations to the Office of the Public Prosecutions.

Prior to this appointment, he was the Principal Secretary in the State Department for Youth Affairs, Ministry of Information, Communication and Technology, Innovation and Youth Affairs.

Korir has also previously served as the Principal secretary in the State Department for Infrastructure, Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing, Urban Development and Public Works, and in the Ministry of Health.

The department transfers the food and funds to various counties under the oversight of County Commissioners and Deputy County Commissioners.
