Details Of Sh800M Bribe That Split IEBC Commissioners With Chebukati

The acrimonious fallout between the Commissioners at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) regarding the just concluded general elections can be traced to the millions of shillings paid out to some of them to tilt the final results in favour of President-elect William Ruto, sources say.

It is now emerging that IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati may have shortchanged his colleagues by hoarding the loot. The source told us that he only shared bits and pieces of the amount to only two of his fellow commissioners and key managers at the IEBC.

After the chairman became arrogant and could not listen to any word at striking a compromise, he decided to go solo with the announcement of the Presidential results since the electoral law gives him immense powers to do just that. Sources say that the deal involved Khs. 800 million which was secretly delivered to Mr Chebukati by agents of one of the Presidential candidates. A section of the commissioners had already been compromised by the said Presidential candidate with offers of lucrative jobs in government once he was declared a winner and formed the government.

An impeccable source at IEBC says “The final Presidential result looks credible on the surface, but internally all of us knew from the onset that it was a total sham. Only highly trained professionals and forensic audit teams can unravel the mess and expose the truth at IEBC.”

She went on: “We know that when things started getting tight in the race between the two leading presidential candidates with the results streaming in from the polling stations, Mr Chebukati, a long-time bosom buddy and ally of one of the contestants met his agents and struck a deal. We know that huge amounts of money then exchanged hands and job offers in government were made.”

Interviews with multi IEBC insider sources confirmed these developments saying that what Kenyans went through during vote tallying was designed to hide the truth, a secret only known by a few people at the commission.

In Kenya today, general elections are not about democracy, it is all about making money, in billions. “What we are being told by Chebukati about some of his colleagues having made attempts to convince him to declare a runoff is just a public relations circus to hide the truth from reaching out into the public arena”.

The source said that the fallout and the ensuing rebellion at the IEBC and at the National Tallying Centre, in Bomas of Kenya Nairobi exploded to the fore because the four rebel commissioners knew what Mr Chebukati had done to compromise the credibility of the 2022 Presidential results. He then became arrogant and dismissive.
