Cry in Embu as police officers harass woman for selling milk, walk away with her day’s sales

There was drama in Dallas Estate in Embu when three armed police officers broke into a shop and assaulted a woman who does milk business.

The officers were fully dressed in police uniform and arrived in vehicles branded Kenya Dairy Board.

Eyewitnesses say that the police entered the shop and started questioning her why she was selling unpacked milk without a license from the dairy board.

It is when the police started roughing her up prompting neighbours to rush for her rescue.

Neighbours allege that the officers became violent when they inquired why they were assaulting the officers.

The incident caused a commotion with area residents storming the scene; others to witness the drama while others to defend the woman.

Some who spoke defended the woman saying she had not violated any law to warrant any harassment.

“They forcefully entered the shop and demanded a license from the woman. Shortly after, they ordered her to hand over some money she had collected,” an eyewitness narrated.

Sources say the officers went away with cash money accrued from the day’s sales.

Senior officers from Embu Police Station visited the scene and went with the woman to record a statement after they were alerted by residents.

Our effort to reach the OCPD was futile as his phone was switched off.
