A senior Kenya Kwanza MP leaked to Weekly Citizen that some junior officers in the roads docket are among those targeted for action over corruption and sponsoring politicians allied to Azimio La Umoja coalition in the last general election.
We have established that those feeling threatened are in a hurry to resign while others have promised to stay put and wait for whatever action is likely to be taken against them.
A source told Weekly Citizen that some of the junior officers who misused taxpayers money either directly and indirectly to sponsor political activities are Kenya Rural Roads Authority Nyanza regional boss Eng. Kenneth Ochieng and his Western chapter counterpart.
The plot is to link them to corruption ahead of their sacking, something being planned against their bosses at the headquarters.
Whereas the junior officers in regional offices funded some Azimio allied governors and MPs, top bosses are said to have poured millions of shillings towards Raila’s campaign in a bid to frustrate President William Ruto and his allies ahead of the last general elections.
It’s against this background that our undercover journalists reported how the pinpointed officers based at Nyanza and Western officers panicked after a Kenya Kwanza top decision making organ demanded that the affected officers be shown the door.
The tension is across the country.
A security officer privy to the planned raid and who did not wish to be quoted corroborated the situation and revealed it’s only a matter of time before investigative agencies pounced on the earmarked officers.
Allegations that they acquired multi-billion-shilling estates from kickbacks and bribes from contractors are part of what will be used to implicate them in corruption and eventually hound them out of the office, amidst arrest and possible prosecution.
When it comes to corruption, Nyanza Kerra regional boss is said to be notorious and is at loggerheads with a section of irate contractors who believed that they were unfairly locked out of tenders in favour of those who part with huge amounts of cash in form of kickbacks.
The disgruntled contractors narrated to Weekly Citizen how some politicians were dubiously awarded tenders as protection fee for the officers who are literally in a looting spree.
In Bungoma, rogue officers at Kenya Rural Roads Authority have panicked following reports that they were being trailed by the anti-graft agencies.
Weekly Citizen has information that the regional top officials linked to corruption can be picked up any time for interrogation.
Procurement officer Evans Barasa and his accountant Nelson Sino are said to be the notorious duo wrecking havoc at the government agency.
According to sources, they fear that their respective bank accounts believed to be hiding millions of dirty money and property are likely to be seized in the said looming operation.
The troubled officers now blame some disgruntled contractors as the orchestrators of their current woes.
Recently, a section of contractors accused Bungoma procurement officer Barasa for what they term as abuse of office and impunity.
Speaking to Weekly Citizen in Bungoma town, locals claim that 22pc meant for constituency roads, 10pc of tenders are supposed to be awarded to youth and people living with disability.
Documents seen by Weekly Citizen indicate that the procurement officer has gone against the procurement rules to have his companies awarded road tenders meant for special groups.
The companies in question are AfricaReage holdings Ltd, Kadenge Contractors, Leta Kenya and Timaka Ltd whose directors are close allies of Barasa, Kerra procurement officer.
Barasa is also accused of demanding hefty kickbacks from bidders so that their companies would be favoured during the tendering process.
Now Bungoma residents want the Kerra procurement probed and transfer of some rogue officials condoning corruption.
The Kerra accountant, a one Sino, always colludes with Barasa in awarding themselves the tenders without advertising the same.
The Kerra upper western region is notorious in tribalism and nepotism as all its top management
are under one ethnic community.
Jared Omondi regional director is a Luo, one K’otieno his deputy also Luo.
Sino the accountant and his deputy are also Luos.
ICT correspondent Mr Jasper is also a Luo.
The local community employees are crying of harsh treatment and nepotism at work.
