West Pokot governor John Lonyangapuo is blaming Kanu top official Nick Salat of using members of the local county assembly to
frustrate him politically. The governor says Salat had promised his deputy governor Nicholas Atudonyang, direct party ticket to face him 2022. Aware of the plot to lock him out of the party, Lonyangapuo has decided to look for another political outfit to defend his seat. The governor defected from Kanu whose leader is Baringo senator Gideon Moi.
John LonyangapuoInformed sources say, Atudonyang currently based in US, has been controlling the assembly using his million dollars that has rendered Lonyangapuo irrelevant. The deputy even boasts to have funded the governor campaign to a tune of Sh100 million. In fact it is said, the governor picked him running mate not for service delivery but to fund his campaigns. The two have fallen out with the deputy relocating to America fearing for his life.
Nick SalatThat the deputy controls the assembly is seen in the manner MCAs have objected to Lonyangapuo moves to make serious changes. Lonyangapuo’s troubles with Kanu began in September 2020 when secretary general Salat expelled four nominated MCAs the governor was relying on to push his agenda. MCAs Grace Rengei, Jackline Ripoo, Nancy Chombir and Josephine Chepurum were expelled from the party on allegations of misconduct and failure to adhere to party guidelines and code of ethics.
Nicholas AtudonyangIn the letter seen by Weekly Citizen, Salat cited refusal to remit monthly membership subscription fee, failure to adhere to the loyalty pledge, failure to defend and promote the party positions among the reasons for expulsion. Rengei was to suffer on grounds of pushing to change the majority and chief whip leadership in favour of the governor cronies. Senator Samuel Poghisio, county assembly speaker Catherine Mukenyang and Atudonyang are being blamed by the county boss of the current happenings.
