The EU, in partnership with the Kisumu county government, plans to set up a Sh123 million dairy project to spur growth in the dairy sub-sector.
Some 5,000 high-quality cows will be artificially inseminated as part of the project, EU ambassador Simon Mordue said. Mordue said the dairy project would boost milk production locally, adding that current yields are relatively low due to poor quality breeds.
He said Kisumu is among the pilot counties that were chosen for the initiative which is being implemented courtesy of Sh3 billion grant given by EU to support development projects in 15 counties across the country.
