Governor Joho Orders All Nightclubs In Mombasa To Remain Closed As He Introduces Drastic Measures To Contain Coronavirus

Governor Ali Hassan Joho says all nightclubs in Mombasa will not be operational for the next 30 days as the county takes measures to minimise possible spread of coronavirus.

Addressing the press at his office on Saturday, March 14, Joho said all bars and restaurants, which have not been affected by the ban, will be allowed to operate up to 11pm latest.

Other measures the county has taken towards minimising the possible spread of the virus include: suspending prison visits for 30 days, suspending all inter-school functions, door-to-door sensitisation on hygiene, providing facilities that enable ferry users to wash their hands before boarding the vessels, directing that all hotels provide customers with sanitisers, and introducing aggressive hand-washing campaigns in slums.

This comes a day after Kenya confirmed the first case of coronavirus in the country.

The patient, a 27-year-old woman, travelled into the country from Chicago, USA, via London, UK, on March 5.

The patient is currently admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital. Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe, revealed Friday that the lady was in a stable condition, and that her body temperature was “normal”.
