A seemingly broke first time ODM MP is having sleepless nights following attempts to auction some of his property.
Voters were shocked to learn that the Port Florence Hospital which is associated with the Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron is facing the auctioneer’s hammer.
The latest development has complicated matters for the lawmaker who is also accused of delaying salaries for workers in his hospitals and other businesses setups under his name
Workers at Port Florence Hospital and St Georges Hospital have gone without salary for over five months and are now threatening to down their tools.
It is imperative to note that this is not the first time workers at the hospitals have protested over salary delays and poor working conditions.
In May, ahead of the last general elections, there was a similar drama when workers at Port Florence Hospital protested over four-month salary arrears.
The over 70 workers who included security guards, also boycotted work over lack of risk allowance, poor working conditions, intimidation and threats.
The agitated workers, armed with placards, expressed their anger and even vowed not to return to work if the salary saga is not sorted out, saying they are unable to feed their families, pay rent and school fees for their children.
Port Florence Hospital community is a grouping of hospitals in Kenya as community-based NGOs and Oron is listed as director
The hospital has several branches in Nyanza region, Rift Valley and Western namely PFCH Kisumu, Maseno Mission Hospital, St Paul’s Mission, Kima Mission, Mwihila, St Georges and Dunga Nursing Home.
When contacted, the MP downplayed the matter, stating that his political rivals have regrouped to finish him politically, and termed the allegations as untrue.
“Someone cannot work for you for over five months without pay. Such a person is either stealing from you, not working for you or is being paid promptly,” he said.
But some locals now want the body governing NGOs in the country to investigate happenings at the donor-funded hospitals and other projects related to the legislator.
There are growing suspicions that Oron could be using the establishments to source money from the donors on behalf of the locals but which is likely ending up in his pocket.
