The Ministry of Sports has spent roughly Sh2.3 billion on rehabilitation of 10 stadiums in the last 12 months.

The report says Chuka Stadium was allocated Sh114m, while Marsabit was allocated Sh169m and Kamariny stadium received Sh228 million. None of the projects have been completed.

Little known martial arts association Kenya Tong-Il Moo-Do, was allocated a whooping Sh80 million as of April 1, 2021 where the SASDF disbursed Sh4.3 billion for that duration.

We have been receiving support from the ministry since 2009 and it has helped the country rise to be ranked second in the world in Tong-IL Moo-Do,” said the federation chairman Clarence Mwakio.
Closely followed in that list is the judo federation that had slightly over Sh73 million disbursed to them for that period. Funds the body says were allocated for junior and senior championship Sh17.6 million, Olympic qualifiers (Sh21.9 million), judo championships (Sh8 million) while another Sh26 million simply reads Judo federation.
This is a huge disparity in allocation given that more supported federations and with huge following like athletics, football, volleyball and rugby received collectively less than the two.
SASDF documents revealed that Football Kenya Federation FKF received Sh66 million in that period, funds that were used in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers match where Harambee Stars played against Comoros home and away as well as home to Egypt and away to Togo.
Athletics Kenya received Sh3.8 million that was used to prepare the team for the 2020 World Athletics Half Marathon Championships in Gdynia, Poland on October 17, 2020.
According to SASDF’s chief executive officer Mark Wambugu the organisation also spent Sh10 million for inscriptions at the historical Thimlich Ohinga archaeological site in Migori.
Since the creation of SASDF in February last year with the purpose of raising revenue from betting companies, it has so far received Sh10 billion which is supposed to fund sports, arts and social development.
The money is distributed under three categories namely Social Development (60 percent), Promotion and Development of Sports (35 percent) and Promotion and Development of Arts (five percent).
Kenya basketball federation received Sh17.8 million, Kenya Paralympics was allocated Sh31 million, Badminton Kenya Sh9 million, weightlifting federation Sh7.7 million, boxing federation Sh11 million, Kenya cycling federation Sh10 million, Kenya shooting federation Sh5.4 million and Kenyan Hockey Union Sh3.2 million.
